Policy Financial Advice

Strengthening Australia's financial advice profession

The FSC supports policy settings that strengthen the financial advice profession and improve outcomes for Australians.

Our policy approach is guided by the following principles.

Improve the accessibility and affordability of advice for all Australians; support measures that deliver a more sustainable and diverse financial advice profession, while engendering trust and confidence; reduce regulatory complexity and enhance innovation; promote the role and value of platforms and choice in the delivery of financial advice; and place the interests of consumers first.

Together, these principles aim to ensure Australians can access high-quality financial advice that supports their long-term financial wellbeing and retirement security.

Our work in this area

The FSC convenes the Digital Advice Expert Group to help define digital financial advice in an Australian context and to support the development of a policy environment that enables its responsible adoption.

Developed in collaboration with CoreData and Borromean Consulting, our research on the role and value of digital advice explores its evolving role across the advice ecosystem, highlighting its growing importance in improving access to financial guidance and supporting better retirement outcomes.

The FSC has released a Green Paper exploring opportunities to modernise Australia's financial advice licensing framework, with the aim of strengthening consumer protection, supporting a diverse and professional advice sector, and ensuring the regulatory model remains fit for purpose in a changing environment.

Industry and public feedback has informed the forthcoming FSC White Paper on the Future of Advice Licensing, to be released in 2026.
